Harvest Festival
Mon 16 Sep 2024This year to celebrate Harvest Festival we will be collecting for Swale Food Bank.
We want to give the children the opportunity to give back to the community, so we are asking children and parents to donate food items from home if they are able. We are not expecting anyone to go and buy something extra, just anything that you may be able to spare, it doesn’t matter how small.
Families in our communities use the food bank so it would be nice to pull together and to celebrate this in the spirit of harvest.
We will be holding a celebration assembly on Wednesday 2nd October, where Reverand Simon will be talking to the children about our community and the work of charities.
Please can we have any donations brought into class with your child by Wednesday 2nd October. Please ensure there are no fresh items, fridge items, bread, anything alcoholic or anything that will spoil quickly. Please see the list of items needed by Swale Food Bank below:

Times Tables Rockstars
Mon 16 Sep 2024As you may know, part of the maths curriculum is for children to learn their times tables up to 12x12 and to be able to recall these rapidly from memory. To support children with learning their times tables, we have invested in a web-based app called Times Tables Rock Stars.
TTRS supports children with learning and revising the tables in a fun, game-style way. You can access this app through the internet at https://play.ttrockstars.com or by downloading the Times Tables Rock Stars app from your app store. There is also a video guide that can be accessed and watched by clicking here plus a parent guide here
Your child will have a personal login and password, which can be found in front of their School Planner. At this time, their teacher will set the tables your child will need to focus on and the Garage practice sessions will focus on these, meaning your child will receive an individualised program of learning.
Teachers have set weekly sessions as part of your child’s maths homework. This means a specific game mode will be set for an allocated amount of time and your child will be locked out of other areas until they have completed this session. A ‘little and often’ approach is best; therefore, teachers have set 30 sessions per week. We recommend that children play for 6 minutes at least 5 times a week.
Thank you for your continued support.

Sunny Bank Primary - Ofsted Report 2024
Tue 10 Sep 2024I am absolutely delighted to be able to share our final Ofsted report with you. As you can see, we have been graded GOOD in all areas and I am extremely pleased with the final report.
The report recognises the things that we are really passionate about. Our high expectations, our pupils are well cared for, our pupils aspire to “be the best they can be”, we have expert reading teachers and that the school has an unrelenting focus on reading.
This is further evidenced through our KS2 SATs results this year which were well above the National Average for schools in the UK. 100% of our children met the age expectations for Reading and 80% of children met the age expected standard for Reading, Writing and Maths combined. The National Average for combined for all in the UK in 2024 was 61%.
Every member of Sunny Bank Staff cares about our children and they work tirelessly so that our children get the very best outcomes and this report is well deserved celebration and endorsement of their daily hard work.
This report also reflects the fantastic community school that Sunny Bank has become. This would not have been possible without our strong parent school partnerships and for this I would like to say a big thank you.
Finally, I need to give a big shout out to our wonderful, kind, caring, Responsible, Optimistic, Ambitious and Resilient children who really make Sunny Bank the best school community!
Please do enjoy reading our long awaited Ofsted report HERE
I thank you in advance, as always, for your support as partners in our children’s education.
Yours Sincerely
Mr J Allen

Welcome Back letter
Wed 04 Sep 2024It was great to welcome everyone back to Sunny Bank for the start of the Academic Year 2024 to 2025. The children had a fantastic first day back and we are really looking forward to this academic year and working with parents for better outcomes for our pupils. As the school moves from strength to strength, we have lots of plans to make this year even better than last year, for our whole community and I have highlighted some of these below.
Yearly Planner
It is important for children’s success that they attend school regularly. If they miss a day of learning this creates gaps in their knowledge and can turn children off of learning. We always work hard to make sure that our curriculum is exciting. Our Yearly calendar can be found on our website so that parents can see all of the exciting curriculum, learning and fun events that we have planned this year.
School Homework Planners
We have redesigned and relaunched our homework planners to improve children’s home learning. The planners include information for parents and children about homework expectations, our new home school agreement, our Values and Pupil Character Super Powers and a place for parents to tick that the children:
-
Have read 30 minutes daily (or read their phonics book daily)
-
Have completed timestables/or (Numbots for Year 1) daily (6 minutes a day or 30 minutes a week)
-
Practiced spellings daily
-
Completed some work towards a home learning project or any extra home learning that they have done.
There is also a section each week for parents to grade their children’s homework, effort and behaviour for the week.
If we want our children to be successful and really be the best that they can be it is vitally important that they complete this homework everyday and bring in their reading book and homework diaries in everyday.
PTA (Friends of Sunny Bank)
I know that most of you will be aware that we have launched a PTA and have our first Annual General Meeting on Thursday 12th September straight after school. All parents are welcome. This is a great opportunity for us to work together, build a fantastic PTA and to raise money to improve our children’s education. I hope to see as many parents as possible at the AGM and to build a strong PTA.
Library Book Charges
As you will know we are a reading school and we invest heavily in high quality books for our children. Unfortunately, last year we had over £2000 of unreturned library books. Going forward we are going to have to charge for books that have been damaged and or have not been returned. I know that parents and carers will be able to support us with this and if you need any help or suggestions for supporting our children in looking after these our books at home please do let us know. We will communicate further with parents about how this will work.
We are really looking forward to working with you this year and I thank you in advance as always for your support as partners in our children’s education.
Kind regards
Mr Allen
