• Science Fair

• Friday 17th March - Wear something red

  This year, to raise money for Comic Relief we are asking children to wear something red alongside their normal school uniform. This could be red socks, red t-shirt, red hairband, or maybe just a little red face paint. We are also asking if you can spare a small donation to this cause, no matter how small, to support Comic Relief.

  

• STEM week

  Dear Parents,

   

  I am excited to tell you that our STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) week will be taking place on the week of 20th March this year, where we will be celebrating STEM with schools around the country.

   

  We have planned lots of opportunities for the children to become scientists. There will be investigations, assemblies and lessons that have a science link to them. In addition, we will host our very own Science Fair and winners from this will join a Collaboration Science Fair involving all of the TILT Trust Schools.

   

  Our Science Fair, will be held on Thursday 23rd March and winners from school will be selected. There will be a winner from all classes, Acorn, Birch, Cedar, Hawthorn, Juniper and Oak. The winners from each school will then attend Minster Primary School - date TBC. Parents are invited to Sunny Bank’s Science Fair on Thursday 23rd March at 2:00pm as part of our termly parent open afternoon. Some entries to the science fair will be in the main hall and parents may enter through the hall door. For the Science Fair we are inviting each child to participate by creating a scientific project at home that will need to be brought into school ready for Thursday 23rd March. The project itself can be simple but it must include scientific explanations including diagrams, pictures, written explanations and/or photos. Ideas will be discussed with children in assembly and website links are below.

   

  There is a lot of information online – if you Google search ‘science projects for children’. We want the children to enjoy investigating the world around them – and believe this is a great way to develop their scientific curiosity and understanding.

• Parents Consultations

  We will be holding Parents Consultations for years 1-6 on Wednesday 15th & Thursday 16th March 2023. Appointments will be available for both days from 15:30 to 18:30. Please log on to your Arbor account to book these appointments. The portal will open tomorrow morning 9am and will close Tuesday 14th March at 9am.

   

  Acorn class will have their appointments on different days, these will be held Monday 20th & Tuesday 21st during the times 15:30-17:00.

   

  If you have any trouble booking these appointments, or need any help logging into Arbor, please do not hesitate to contact the school office.

  

• Moki step watches have launched!

  Moki is the first physical activity tracker designed for schools. Moki Bands count pupil steps and use contactless technology to transmit the data to the Moki app with a simple tap. 

   

  Moki inspires schools to move more by providing an accurate picture of their physical activity. Using a simple wristband that records a student’s steps and active minutes, Moki offers educators a unique new way to engage children in their health and wellbeing learning.

   

  Last week we launched the Moki bands at Sunny Bank and the children have instantly engaged with these. Our total steps for the first week was 3,647,713 steps!

   

  Individual, Class, Year or whole school activity reports are generated in real-time.This new insight can then be used to evaluate progress on an individual, class or year group basis, or shared with staff, parents and even OFSTED.

   

  Schools that already use Moki all say that it has had a huge impact on the children’s willingness to be more active, not just in physical education and sports. What’s more Moki provides schools with a way to share it with staff and parents in a way that simply wasn’t possible before.

  

• Meals price increase

  Please be advised that from Monday 17th April 2023 there will be a price increase to the cost of the main school meals. The current price is £2.30 for a main meal and a dessert. This will now increase to £2.45 per meal.

   

  The school has not implemented a price rise for a few years now, but due to the continued pressure on the cost of wholesale food we unfortunately cannot avoid the increase any longer.

   

  It should be noted that our school meals are excellent value for money and are made with fresh ingredients to provide a healthy balanced diet. The children have a choice of a main meal, vegetarian meal or a jacket potato. There is always fresh salad available.

   

  We ask for your understanding with these price increases and fully appreciate that times are tough.
