Raising Money for a Minibus
Mon 07 Oct 2024Last year we applied to the Sunshine Variety Coach Charity to apply for a minibus for Sunny Bank Primary School and I am pleased to let you know that we have been successful. As part of the process, we need to raise part of the money towards the cost of the coach and a sponsor company, through the charity, will raise the rest.
To raise our £17,000, part contribution we are going to be using lots of strategies, not limited to, but including money raised by our new PTA, who have launched with enthusiasm and energy just this September. We have already raised £2000 through initiatives, and I know that as a community group we will be able to achieve our goal. We always welcome any suggestions from parents or community members for effective ways to raise funds, so if you have any suggestions or when the time comes anything that you can donate to the various fayres and fundraising activities, please do speak to the PTA or send an email to the school office.
We have started a JustGiving page HERE.
Please can you spread this far and wide to all your contacts and local businesses that you have connections with. We are potentially also looking for larger donations from business sponsors that could include advertising on our new bus.
Why the need for the minibus?
We want our children to have very best experiences from their education and whilst we try to provide this through existing funding, the cost of coach travel and train travel keeps rising.
As part of our community spirit week, our children go out into the local community, litter picking, clearing overgrown areas, delivering donated food to the local foodbank and donating cards for the local Demelza charity shop to sell. Due to lack of transport options, it is becoming increasingly difficult to provide these opportunities to substantial numbers of children.
We have a 30 strong choir, children who are developing a love of music and happiness through performance. The school is at the heart of its community and each year in the run up to Christmas they gather at the local shopping centre to sing Christmas Carols (giving back to their community) however it is becoming more and more difficult to find suitable transport arrangements. Last year we had to cancel a choir trip to a care home due to lack of transport.
It is important that our children have access to high quality physical education, experience a wide range of sports and participate in competitions. Last year we were able to participate in some football tournaments, girls football and a sports competition for children with disabilities and SEN. However, there were lots of sports competitions and experiences that we were unable to attend due to difficulties with transport costs.
We are very fortunate to be eligible for the Variety Club Coach Scheme and this is an exciting venture that we are embarking on as a community to raise funds to improve the experiences and lives of our children. Keep an eye out for events and progress, spread that word and the link far and wide. Any suggestions that you have, please do let us know either by speaking to our PTA or emailing our office.
I thank you in advance, as always, for your support as partners in our children’s education.
Yours sincerely
Mr J Allen

Parents Open Afternoon
Mon 07 Oct 2024I am delighted to invite parents to this terms parent open afternoon on Thursday 17th October 2024. This terms activities will be planned around phonics and how to support your child's reading at home.
Parents will meet in the hall at the beginning of the afternoon for a ten-minute presentation, and then will be able to join their child(ren) in class to participate in lots of fun reading activities. It is a fantastic opportunity for our children to show their skills and really promote the importance of reading to our children. We encourage as many parents as possible to attend.
Parents will be able to enter the school at 1.30pm via the main reception. The parents will have a ten-minute presentation in the school hall, and then be shown to the children’s classrooms. For those who have more than one child in the school we ask that the time is split between siblings and that the parents visit the youngest siblings class first. Teaching Assistants will guide the adults to the other sibling’s classes when required. As you are aware, a school office is very busy and therefore parents will not be admitted for the open afternoon after 1:40pm. I know that you will appreciate this and support the school to ensure the smooth running of the open afternoon.
Parents will be able to take their children home from 3pm and will be required to sign them out with the class teacher. For any children whose parents are unable to attend the normal school end time will apply.
As always, I thank you in advance for supporting the school as partners in our children’s education. I look forward to seeing you all on the 17th of October.
Kind Regards
Mr Allen
