  • Sunny Bank Primary School recognised for its commitment to helping pupils stay safe online

    Thu 29 Apr 2021

    From the official press release:

Sunny Bank Primary School is now a National Online Safety Certified School.

Sunny Bank Primary School has successfully completed a comprehensive online safety training programme demonstrating its commitment to keeping children and young people safe online.

Sunny Bank Primary School has received a National Online Safety Certified School Accreditation for its whole school community approach to protecting children in the online world.

National Online Safety is a multi-award winning digital training provider with extensive resources in online safety, developed in line with the Department of Education’s statutory requirements.

Its CPD accredited courses and educational resources support UK schools in educating the whole school community in online safety– including all school staff, senior leaders, teachers and parents – on how to make the internet a safer place for children.

James Southworth, co-founder at National Online Safety, said: “Congratulations to everyone at Sunny Bank Primary School on becoming a National Online Safety Certified School. By completing our training programme, the school has shown its strong commitment to implementing an effective whole school approach to online safety.”

“It can be increasingly difficult for schools and parents to stay ahead of online threats and ensure both children and staff are safeguarded from potentially harmful and inappropriate online material. We arm schools with the knowledge they need to understand online dangers and how best to react to any problems.”

Sarah Riggs, Assistant Head and project co-ordinator at Sunny Bank Primary School said

In order to achieve this status, the school ensured that the lessons provided were taught to our children in all classes.  We also ensured that teachers, teaching assistants, our well-being team, governors and parents completed some of the webinars and courses successfully.

Although, we have now achieved the accreditation, we will continue to ensure that these very important messages are continued to be given to all of these parties each and every term.”

  • Forest School Launch!

    Fri 23 Apr 2021

This week has been an exciting week! We have officially launched our whole class Forest School sessions which have been held in our newly developed Forest school area / base camp.

The children of Jeffers/Potter/Walliams and Dahl have attended a 2 hour session with Mrs Lougheed (Forest School Leader).

It’s been great to see so many children outside exploring and enjoying being in the outdoors. The children have engaged in exploring base camp using their senses, observing nature and signs of spring, and engaged in outdoor mindfulness activities to help us feel calm.

We are excited to announce that next week Murphy/Austen/Pratchett and Andersen will also have the chance to experience Forest School as whole classes (information will follow soon).

We look forward to Forest School becoming bigger and better as we continue with our journey of development.
