  • World Book Week

    Tue 27 Feb 2024

The week commencing Monday 4th March 2024 is Book Week. We have a range of fun and exciting activities planned for the children. There will be a strong focus on reading for fun and enjoying reading anywhere!

There is the opportunity for children to dress up on both Wednesday 6th and Thursday 7th March. Children can either dress up as their favourite character or wear their pyjama’s. Dress up as a character on one day and pyjamas the next or a character as both days, it’s completely up to them. Please ensure your child has suitable footwear: No flip flops, sandals or slippers as these won’t be suitable for the playground.

On Wednesday 6th March, we will be holding a book swap in school. Children are able to bring in a book from home and swap for another pre-loved book during the school day.

We will also be having a bedtime read on this day, 3:30pm-4.30pm. Parents can join their child in school to share some bedtime stories. Children are welcome to bring in their favourite books, a teddy and pillow if they wish, but we will have plenty of resources in school to use.

On Thursday 7th March we will be having Nickel Books attending in school, this will give the children an opportunity to purchase a book using their book tokens they will be given that week.  We are also holding a coffee morning this day, 9am in our school hall. There will be drinks, cakes and pastries available for all. Please enter via the side gate.

There are many exciting activities happening throughout the week: book bistro, stop and read, designing bookmark, writing book reviews and much much more! You do not want to miss this fun packed week!

We look forward to seeing everyone’s costumes and welcoming everyone in for our book read and coffee morning. Thank you as always, for supporting us as we work together in our children’s education.

  • STEM Week

    Mon 26 Feb 2024

I am excited to tell you that our STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) week will be taking place on the week of 11th March this year, where we will be celebrating STEM with schools around the country. We have planned lots of opportunities for the children to become scientists. There will be investigations, assemblies and lessons that have a science link to them. In addition, we will host our very own Science Fair and winners from this will join a Collaboration Science Fair involving all of the TILT Trust Schools.

Our Science Fair, will be held on Thursday 14th March and winners from school will be selected. There will be a winner from all classes, Acorn, Birch, Cedar, Hawthorn, Juniper and Oak. There will be 4 winners who will then attend Minster Primary School on Friday 15th March.

For the Science Fair we are inviting each child to participate by creating a scientific project at home that will need to be brought into school ready for Thursday 14th March. The project itself can be simple but it must include scientific explanations including diagrams, pictures, written explanations and/or photos.

Ideas have been shared with children in assembly and there will be a club every lunch time for children who need help with ideas or writing up. There are websites detailed in this letter to support parents and children to create a project. There is a lot of information online – if you google search ‘science projects for children’. You can also visit our STEM page HERE.

We want the children to enjoy investigating the world around them and believe this is a great way to develop their scientific curiosity and understanding.

Parents are invited to Sunny Bank’s Science Fair on Thursday 14th March at 2:00pm as part of our termly parent open afternoon.  This will be held in the main hall. We had such a fantastic number and range of projects entered last year and would like even more this year.

Thank you in advance as always for your continued support as partners in our children’s education.

    Kind regards,

Mr Allen and Mrs Willing (Science Lead)
