Geography
At Sunny Bank we believe that Geography stimulates curiosity and imagination and geography by developing geographical skills, understanding and knowledge through studying places and themes.
We believe that Geography is a key element of the curriculum as it provides a means of exploring, appreciating and understanding the world in which we live and how it has evolved. Geography explores the relationship between the Earth and its people.
EYFS
We use 6 topic-based themes across the year to ensure that children are excited and engaged through the best possible and meaningful experiences.
Our learning environment is deliberately planned to ensure that children can develop their own ideas and make links between what they know and new experiences.
Provocations and associated materials linked to the weeks story and topic are available for children to explore.
KS1 and KS2
We use 3 geography based, recurring themes across the year to teach the knowledge and skills content of our geography progression maps.
Our curriculum enables the children to develop their geographical skills in; location knowledge, geographical skills and field work, human and physical geography and place knowledge.
We build in cross curricular links, where possible, so that children learn more and remember more in all subjects.
We use a range of assessment strategies throughout these lessons to ensure our children have a firm understanding of key skills and knowledge.
