  • Community Spirit Week

    Fri 27 Sep 2024

I am excited to inform you, that next week at Sunny Bank Primary School we are going to be running our Community Spirit Week!

This is a great opportunity for our children to develop a sense of community responsibility, a strong moral purpose and to give back to the community and make a positive impact. They will learn about the importance of taking care of our environment, the value of teamwork and community involvement and the importance of taking care of our community.

Throughout the week, there will be various activities for our children to participate in.

On Monday, September 30th, Oak class will be visiting Murston Heart (Church) where they will be helping with litter picking in the Heart grounds/area. We encourage our children to participate in these activities and learn about the importance of giving back to our community.

On Tuesday, 1st October, Hawthorn and Juniper class will be doing some litter picking around the local church grounds and cleaning inside. Litter picking introduces children to the concept of environmental responsibility and keeping their surroundings clean and preserving nature.

On Wednesday, 2nd October, Birch class will be litter picking outside the school grounds in small groups throughout the day.

On Thursday 3rd October, Cedar and Elm classes will be litter picking and cleaning at the local church.

In addition, the classes will be making homemade cards for the Demelza charity to sell in their shop. On Thursday/Friday the School Parliament will deliver these cards to the charity shop.

Our Wellbeing warriors will also be delivering Harvest food to the food bank on Thursday/Friday.

For those children that are taking part in litter picking and gardening, please can you ensure your child has suitable clothing; warm clothes and coat, wellington boots and hat/gloves if possible.

Throughout the activities, our children will be in small groups and will be fully supervised by school adults at all times. For those that are litter picking, we have the correct equipment and as always will ensure that all activities are safe.

For such local visits, we do not ask for parents to sign a separate consent form, as this permission is already granted when parents complete their child’s initial application form on starting school. We encourage our children to participate in these activities and learn about the importance of giving back to our community. If, however, for any reason you feel your child should not take part in the visit, please speak to the class teacher or member of SLT.

Please ensure that medical or other personal information currently provided by you and held by the school, with respect to your son/daughter, is kept up to date.

This will be a great opportunity for our children and as always, I thank you for your continued support as partners in the education of our children.

  • School Individual and Sibling Photographs

    Thu 26 Sep 2024

School individual and sibling photographs will be taken Monday 30th September.

ALL children will have their photographs taken unless the parent has specifically requested that this does not happen by ticking the appropriate box on the ‘photograph permission form’ (previously sent to all children) or for those parents who ticked the consents form on the new on-line application form Applicaa.

If you have any issues with the photographer taking photos of your child individually and with any siblings, please contact the office before Monday.

Please ensure that your child is smart and in full school uniform (including school jumpers/cardigans) for their photograph.

Photographs will commence promptly at 9.00am, so it is therefore important that your child arrives to school on time if you wish their photo to be taken. The photographer is working to a tight timetable and therefore any late pupils may miss out.

    Many thanks for your co-operation

  • Parent Consultations

    Mon 23 Sep 2024

Parents evenings are a chance to discuss the progress that your children are making academically and in all other areas of development. These conversations are a vital part of our partnership in helping our children achieve the best they can and ‘be the best they can be’. It is important that all parents attend a meeting with their child’s teacher to discuss their success and how we can work together to best support their development.

Our parent consultations will be held Wednesday 2nd October 3.30pm - 5pm and Thursday 3rd  October 3.30pm - 7pm. We have extended the appointment time on the Thursday to 7pm to give everyone the opportunity to book an appointment.

These meetings will be held in the main hall, and time slots are strictly limited to 10 mins per appointment. If you have more than one child, please leave a 10 minute gap between appointments. Please log on to your Arbor account to book a slot. If you have any problems booking an appointment, please call the school office.

I look forward to seeing you all at one of these appointments. If you cannot make one of these time slots, please speak to your child’s teacher who may be able to arrange an alternative day to see you.

As always, I thank you in advance for supporting the school as partners in our children’s education.

    Kind Regards

  • Relationships and Sex Education Curriculum

    Wed 18 Sep 2024

We’ve been consulting with parents, pupils and staff to make sure our new relationships and sex education (RSE) curriculum meets the government’s requirements, as well as the needs of our pupils.

We’ve worked hard to make sure that our amended policy reflects:

•Our pupils’ age and maturity levels, as well as their cultural and religious backgrounds

•The values of our school community

    •Every pupil’s learning needs

•What pupils need to know to be healthy and safe in school, in their personal relationships and in the wider world

We’ve now updated our RSE policy to include our proposed new curriculum.

You’ll find a copy of our new draft policy HERE.

We’d like your feedback on the proposed curriculum and the wider policy.  You can find the link to submit your response by clicking HERE.

You can also come into school and speak with myself on Tuesday 1st October 2024 at 3:30 to give any feedback or ask any questions around the RSE curriculum.

The deadline for responding to the consultation is Tuesday 1st October 2024.

    Yours sincerely,

    E Johnson

    Assistant Headteacher
