Anti-Bullying Week 2025: Power for Good

Remembrance Day Poppy Appeal
Mon 03 Nov 2025We are pleased to let you know that from today, poppies and other commemorative items will be available to purchase at school in support of the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal.
Items will be sold each school day for one week, leading up to Remembrance Sunday. Our Head Boy and Head Girl will be helping to run the sales, and children wishing to purchase a poppy or other items should bring their cash donations into school.
This is a meaningful opportunity for our school community to come together in remembrance and reflection, and to support a very worthy cause. We hope that the families of Sunny Bank will join us in commemorating Armistice Day and help raise funds for those who have served and continue to serve.
Thank you for your continued support, and we encourage everyone to purchase their poppies through school.

Community Spirit Week
Thu 09 Oct 2025This week we have been celebrating Community Spirit Week!
Our amazing children have showcased their ‘Responsibility’ by giving back to our local community through fun and meaningful activities. This has included many visits to All Saints Church in Murston, where they lit up the space by cleaning inside the church and litter was collected around the outside grounds!
Together, we're building strong moral values!

Parents Open Afternoon
Thu 09 Oct 2025I am delighted to invite parents to this term’s parent open afternoon on Thursday 16th October 2025.
The afternoon will have a reading focus and how to support your child’s reading at home. All Passport to Learning work will be displayed in the hall.
It is a fantastic opportunity for our children to show their skills and really promote the importance of reading to our children. We encourage as many parents as possible to attend.
Parents will be able to enter the school at 2:00pm via the main reception and will then be shown to hall to view the displays and escorted to the children’s classrooms. For those who have more than one child in the school we ask that the time is split between siblings and that the parents visit the youngest siblings class first.
Teaching Assistants will guide the adults to the other sibling’s classes when required. As you are aware, a school office is very busy and we do not have the staff to escort parents to classes at all times. This could also poses a safeguarding issue. Therefore we will be opening the gate from 2pm to 2:20pm to give parents a 20 minute window. Please note that parents will not be admitted for the open afternoon after 2:20pm. I know that you will appreciate this and support the school to ensure the smooth running of the open afternoon.
Parents who attend the event will be able to take their children home from 3pm and will be required to sign them out with the class teacher. For any children whose parents are unable to attend, the normal school end time will apply.
As always, I thank you in advance for supporting the school as partners in our children’s education. I look forward to seeing you all on the 16th of October.
Kind Regards
Miss N Hyett

Community Spirit Week
Fri 03 Oct 2025Dear Families,
We are excited to let you know that next week is our Community Spirit week which is a wonderful opportunity for our children to demonstrate the ‘Responsibility’ aspect of our ROAR values. During the week there will be a variety of activities arranged for the children to support them in developing a strong moral purpose and encouraging them to give back to their local community. During this week our children will also learn about the importance of taking care of our environment, the value of teamwork and community involvement. We will be encouraging our children to reflect on the concept of environmental responsibility and keeping their community clean to preserve nature.
For the children taking part in litter picking and gardening, please can you ensure your child has suitable clothing: warm clothes, coat, hat, gloves and wellington boots. All children will be provided with the correct equipment to enable them to complete their task, and all activities have been risk assessed as being safe.
As with all local visits and trips, we do not ask for families to sign a separate consent form as this permission is already granted when completing the initial school application form. For all activities that are off site, children will be fully always supervised by school adults.
We are really looking forward to a week filled with meaningful experiences that will help our children grow as responsible and caring members of our community. Thank you, as always, for your continued support in helping us nurture these important values.
Yours sincerely
Miss Nicole Hyett
