We have had an amazing time reading this term. Our class book was called 'Hodgeheg' and was all about a hedgehog called Max trying his very best to find a safe place for hedgehogs to cross the road. Inspired by the story we learnt about how to cross the road safely and even practised it in the car park of our school!
However, the highlight of reading this term was 'Book week'. It was so lovely to see the class read and re -enact poetry, share their favourite book from home, compete in the AR quiz challenge across the Trust and really absorb themselves into a fun filled reading week! We ended the week exploring Miss Wood's favourite children's book 'The Tiger Who Came to Tea' and decorated our classroom door in this theme. The costumes on dress up day were amazing Potter Class - a great big well done for all your effort in reading this term.
All year phonics and spelling have been a big focus in Potter Class. Year One have now covered all phase 5 sounds and Year Two are working on revising these graphemes and on different spelling patterns and rules. A focus for Year One this term and next term, will be reading real and nonsense words with fluency - please see the photo linked for examples of real and nonsense words. They will need to blend the sounds together to read the words. For Year 2 we have also attached a photo of some of the spelling patterns they have been learning.
This term in Potter Class we have been developing our division skills. We used manipulatives such as; counters, cubes and pegs to share into equal groups. We then looked at arrays and how many groups of how many objects we had, progressing onto writing division calculations. Last week, we also began to look at statistics, making tally charts and pictograms and interpreting data. It has been a busy term for Maths, but lots of fun too!
This term Potter Class carried out a variety of activities using ICT! We looked at making our own web page, we talked about internet safety and we also began to navigate 'Purple Mash' on the laptops. We found '2paint' on Purple Mash and created desert scenes using different colours and drawing in different features such as a cactus or a desert creature. We have been learning about deserts in Geography, so we all enjoyed making our fun paintings on purple mash.
